Check your Internet Connection</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
In an ideal world, all organisations and client have blistering fast Internet. But alas, the world is not like that, here in South Africa, we have some Governmental and Semi-Governmental institutions that just not have that Internet speed they need to get things done.<br />
<br />
Couldn't Install , was the error. Frustrated me a for a whole while, whilst trying to install O365 ProPlus using the Office Deployment Tool<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://andrevsblog.files.wordpress.com/2019/06/odterror.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ODTError" border="0" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1022" height="299" src="https://andrevsblog.files.wordpress.com/2019/06/odterror.png" width="400" /></a>.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I knew there was more than enough space on the machine, it did have an internet connection (More on this in a bit), the Installer was setup correctly and shared.<br />
<br />
I ended up logging a call with Microsoft, and they could also not resolve the issue.<br />
<br />
After some more troubleshooting i found the issue, the internet connection was too slow, so even though the error stated "Is your Internet Connection Working" , which it was, there was no talk about the <strong>speed</strong> needed. I can only assume it was some form of time-out when trying to connect to O365.<br />
<br />
So after some upgrades to the network and Internet Speed, it just worked.<br />
<br />

I thought i'd share this with you, as i have not found a post, that pointed to this, it might just be something you need to consider.<br />

What is the TransBaviaans ? </h3>
<br />
Simple, one of the most grueling 1 day Mountain Bike races in South Africa. Riders have to cover 230KM in 24 hours. Starting from Willowmore in the Karoo and finishing in Jefferey's Bay. There is over 3000m of climbing, including the <b>Baviaans Back Climb</b>, the (in)Famous <b>MAC (Mother of all Climbs</b>), fangs, and the <b>Never Ender.</b> Most of which you get after doing about 110km into the ride.<br />

<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Why do this ??</h3>
<div>
Once again a simple answer ... Because i want to and can :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Where did all of this start ?</h3>
<div>
It all started last year around November, when myself and my cycling buddy and best friend, Jeandre looked for a new challenge. Every year since we started Mtb'ing we look for a challenge to work towards. In 2014 it was completing the 30 KM, 94.7 Mountain Bike Race.( We started July 2014) The following year, i wanted to do all the Nissan Trailseeker races. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then was the "dare" lets do the Transbaviaans ..... that's how it started, almost like one of those "drunken dare's" , with the exception that we actually entered.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We entered in December our 4 man team, and called ourselves team <b>BSG (Blood, Sweat and Gears) </b>and so the journey to the Transbaviaans started.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
The Journey to the Transbaviaans</h3>
<div>
From January we were all focused on the Transbaviaans, one of our original team mates decided very quickly that this endurance style riding is not for him. Fortunately, our fellow PEMBI and friend, decided he wants in . So there was our team to the end, Werner, Johan, Jeandre and Myself.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We all started training in earnest, some of us, more than other, i was the one doing less :-) I just got new job after being retrenched and thus had to focus on that first.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also arranged a Transbaviaans Info Evening at Centurion Cyclery (Thanks Gert) where we had Christiaan and Francois give us some tips and advice for the race, we also had Estie there from a coaching point of view and Vince helped us with some nutrition tips. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We did long rides together, long rides with other people, rode 105 KM in pouring rain with some other tough PEMBI's. All in preparation of the TB. During the week, we went to the Power Studio in Pierre van Ryneveld, and sat on Watt Bikes to build Stamina and Power, to this day, i am 100% certain this was the thing that made me pull through.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We all also did some races in-between the normal training as well. All of this came with it's own set of issues :</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Cycling was done every weekend, very little family time. </li>
<li>At some point, being on the bike starts feeling like work, so the enjoyment factor is out of the window.</li>
<li>Money spent on the bikes and accessories</li>
<ol>
<li>Lights </li>
<li>Services</li>
<li>Clothing, like arm and leg warmers etc. (The List goes on)</li>
</ol>
<li>Doubt kicks in, am i doing enough, am i progressing the same as the other team members</li>
<li>It's bloody Winter.... With the Race right after the winter, it meant spending many cold mornings on the bikes. Getting up was a mission.</li>
</ol>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
The Big Issue</h3>
</div>
<div>
Early in June i was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack, i thought , that's it, that's the TB down the tubes. Fortunately it turned out to not be so bad as originally though. Under the Dr's instruction i was to take it easy on the bike. Which was most likely one of the best things to have happened, because i started riding on my Heart Rate. I noticed when just slowing things down a wee bit, i could cycle much longer and still feel good afterwards.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Needless to say, at this point, my team mates was quite a bit ahead of me, when it comes to fitness and weight loss, Jeandre in fact , lost about 30 KG's this year :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There was some discussions after this incident, on whether it would be best, for the good of the team, if someone replaces me to do the ride. This did not happen, as the team felt there is still enough time for me to work a bit harder. This however left me with allot of doubt, on whether i should be still doing this.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
The Race </h3>
<h4 style="text-align: left;">
The day before the race </h4>
<div>
So quickly the time has come for the race to start. Some tips below for the trip down to Willowmore, these are what i found worked for me and the team.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>We left Pretoria the Thursday morning, and drove through and slept over in Middelburg (about 700 km)</li>
<li>The Friday morning before the race, we drove through to Willowmore (About 300 km) we got there refreshed but very nervous. </li>
<li>This is when our support driver and my sister in law, Thea helped us allot, she has been a support driver for a few teams over the years, and showed us the ropes. </li>
<li>Go to registration ASAP, it opens at 14:00</li>
<li>Pack your crate for CP4 as soon as possible and go and hand it in. (It has be handed in before 20:45 if i recall correctly. Don't be late, they WILL leave without it.</li>
<li>Have a early dinner. We ate before the race briefing, and walked to the briefing, helping with the digestion of food.</li>
<li>ATTEND THE RACE BRIEFING, this is a must for first timers. They told us where to be on the lookout and which sections might be dangerous etc.</li>
<li>try to get to bed, early-ish.</li>
</ol>
<h4 style="text-align: left;">
<br />Race Day</h4>
</div>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Get up at a reasonable time, we got up at 06:00, and this gave us enough time to have coffee, breakfast and a shower before getting dressed. </li>
<li>Thea dropped our other crates with our goodies in at the collection point, leaving us carefree to leisurely finish our dressing and packing of our stuff into the support car.</li>
<li>Start check in is at 09:00 be there as close as possible to that time. There is allot of riders trying to check in.</li>
<li>If you are a first timer, take it easy at the start and enjoy the moment, there are hundreds of people in Willowmore's streets cheering you on at the start. I felt like a bit of a TDF rider :-)</li>
</ol>
<h4 style="text-align: left;">
The ride</h4>
<div>
The first 25 km or so is uphill, take it easy, there is a long day ahead. As an experienced back marker :-) don't fuss too much about your position at this stage, there are always riders going harder than they should, during the first stretch and it is guaranteed to catch up with them later.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From around 25 km it is "downhill" for about 80 km or so. Don't be fooled by the downhill bit, it is a bit more of rolling hills with a downward slope. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CP1 is not a check point, but rather a hydration station. We had roosterkoek to eat there, with some First Choice flavoured milk.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CP 2 is the first official Checkpoint. Here you have to enter and exit as a team, after receiving a little colored sticker on your checkpoint lanyard thingy </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkXlEI8hA1us-PRxH_jg2-4tEeSWnZwZ4dVuzgF2PCk4BpnbdbqXcz6SRbKNifiHswJ2mPIeM0Irb_NLR2V8nGF-n0ZqV8hgc1RrzzrSRrZDbAYHADNIayrPnNJgakgp2WgLP9keN3rgYs/s1600/IMG_3663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkXlEI8hA1us-PRxH_jg2-4tEeSWnZwZ4dVuzgF2PCk4BpnbdbqXcz6SRbKNifiHswJ2mPIeM0Irb_NLR2V8nGF-n0ZqV8hgc1RrzzrSRrZDbAYHADNIayrPnNJgakgp2WgLP9keN3rgYs/s320/IMG_3663.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After CP2 is where it all starts, you hit Baviaans back climb, which is breathtakingly beautiful. Do stop for pics and enjoy the view. After Baviaans back there is a nice downhill, the first proper one, at this point i must caution and mention that you check everything is securely strapped in. I lost my bloody IPhone somewhere on that decent. Now stuck with a el-cheapo android :-(</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CP3 is right after the downhill after a small water crossing. Very nice Sosaties await you here. Take your time, not too much though, as after this point is the Fangs and MAC. Rest a bit, eat and hydrate and fill up. We had to switch on lights from this point on.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We started with Fangs 1, which is ride-able but very steep. For a big fellow like me, it meant walking a bit, the other team mates managed to ride it to the top. Fangs 2, is a different story, the road surface made it difficult to choose and stick to a line, especially for a slow climber like me. Once again, i walked most of it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After the second fang, you get to the bottom of MAC. I must say mentally it is a toughy, when looking up , and very far above you, you see the lights of other riders that is almost done with MAC.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The first part of MAC i found more steep than the second-half, thus again, i did quite a bit of walking, but fortunately i was joined by Johan, it was nice having some company on the long walk to freedom.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The second part we rode, to the top. Then just as you think you are at Bergplaas, they throw in a 4km drag to the turnoff to the Bergplaas check. Make sure you know the route, ask the Altech Team, they missed it and lost their lead because of that.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To me Bergplaas was the nicest checkpoint, the Soup there is to die for. The fireplace is dangerous though, don't go and sit too long next to it, you might not want to get up again. Here we also changed clothes, dry, socks and winter kit, like arm and leg warmers.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I said to myself before the ride, if i can get to Bergplaas, and still feel good, i know i will finish. And i did still feel good, as a matter of fact, the entire team did. There was allot of riders that fell out at this point. Some injured, mechanical issues, and some just plain gatvol.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We left Bergplaas for the big dipper down, this is quite a downhill and should not be taken lightly, be careful, the surface is rough and there are some 90 degree turns. Focus is key, here. Once at the bottom you have some rolling hills for about 18 km to CP5, the first place where you see your support driver. the last 3km before CP5 is tar road, it is heaven :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At this checkpoint we met with Thea, Dedrei and Lientjie. Was so awesome to see them there, in the cold night to support us. We had a chip roll and topped up our drinks and left for CP 6, which is an unmanned checkpoint. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This stretch is also home to the Never Ender, roughly a 12 KM drag, not steep but it lasts longer than Zuma's reign. It is very ride-able just loooonggg.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is here where uhm, i had to use the loo .... not sure how many of you had to take a "veltie" on a ride, whilst wearing a bib.... It's a mission i tell you. Basically had to suspend myself between a wall and a fence, and pull away the bib with one hand :-) I know it's TMI but just had to share it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Fortunately i did not kak in my bib, i think that would have made for a nasty ride home for all. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Just before CP6 is a split in the road, and it is here were some other guys went wrong, we had to stop and check the map, to make sure we weren't wrong. We we right, we checked in and headed for CP7, the last one before the end. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here we had some jaffels and coffee and milo and fillled up the bottles for a last time. From this checkpoint you have about 10 km downhill before the last nasty is thrown at you, in the form of Mini-Mac, short steepish climb, just enough to piss me off. So i walked a bit of it, the last walk i may add. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From there is nothing major till you get to the freaking single track a few km from the end, this part was the first piece of the race i hated.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What an awesome feeling when you cross the railroad tracks again and you see the finish, all our wives were there, Dedrei, Lientjie, Marlize and Bianca. Also our support driver Thea and Klaus. If it wasn't for them, there would have been little fanfare, as we got there in the break of dawn, 20:48:23 later.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
An ice cold craft beer is shoved in your hands to start the celebrations, along with a spur burger. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJMCW-JL9fXUwS_5_uxXRpY2aaQU1WY3iUgGKW44NkZng3Uo5ANB5ABZf8EZ7YRUfBNnDgDoQey4XKygWiYXD0q8A9EuItS4uOOxYtNQbL_OEcpa_aXzVvuaw7JJrzGjsdTxpvCuP6Xb4S/s1600/untitled23.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJMCW-JL9fXUwS_5_uxXRpY2aaQU1WY3iUgGKW44NkZng3Uo5ANB5ABZf8EZ7YRUfBNnDgDoQey4XKygWiYXD0q8A9EuItS4uOOxYtNQbL_OEcpa_aXzVvuaw7JJrzGjsdTxpvCuP6Xb4S/s320/untitled23.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
So what did i learn ?</h3>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Make sure you start your packing well in advance. Understand what you will need to pack them in crates. The crates is not big, but it was big enough for our 4 man's teams needs.</li>
<li>Travel there over 2 days, do not show up on the morning of the ride. Some of the people that did that, did not finish the ride. Same with Travel back, rather split it up in 2 days.</li>
<li>Make sure that you know and understand the strength and weaknesses of each team member. </li>
<li>Chamois Cream or "Hol Room" in afrikaans, is king, use it often.</li>
<li>Look after each other, like we did, support each other. banter, joke, laugh, it all helps ticking off the km's.</li>
<li>Always believe in yourself, no matter what people said, and how badly the odds are stacked against you. Always have an awesome support structure around you, your husband, your wife and kids, and remember them whilst pushing that bike up MAC</li>
<li>Make friends, help other riders on the route, where you can, share water, share something to eat with a fellow rider, it might just help them to push through</li>
<li>Lastly, enjoy the ride, enjoy the scenery, stop to take a photo, watch the pace. </li>
<li>Stay positive, especially beforehand. Stay away from negative people telling you, you cannot do this. </li>
</ol>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Will i be back in 2017 ?</h3>
</div>
<div>
Hell Yes. Now i know why there are people out there whom has done this 13 times already. Go on, give it a try, remember, the harder you work beforehand, the better you feel on the ride.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<b>Lastly..</b></h3>
<div>
Thanks to my Team Mates, Johan, Werner and Jeandre. It has been an epic adventure, we had up's and downs, flats , good times and a lifetime of memories.</div>
<div>
Also thanks to my wife Dedrei, for believing in me, when i doubted myself the most. Your support and love has helped me through this.</div>
<div>
Thanks Thea, for being such an awesome suport driver for us, you were more than that, your were our TransBaviaans Mammie :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">

We recently dealt with a client that had a very specific requirement regarding document management in the SharePoint environment. Most of this was due to ISO requirements.<br />
<br />
They had a current SP environment running on SharePoint 2010 with custom dev for things like UID's for documents etc.<br />
<br />
We went in and installed SharePoint 2016, (There was other requirements as well). I create the site structure as before, but this time used a SharePoint Document Center.<br />
<br />
Very important to note, or just a tip, before creating the site collections, activate the Document ID Feature in SharePoint. It can be done afterwards, but it seem to take a while, or not work always. For more info on setting that up, have a look <a href="https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Enable-and-configure-unique-Document-IDs-ea7fee86-bd6f-4cc8-9365-8086e794c984" target="_blank">Here</a><br />
<br />
I added some Custom Content Types and Columns as per the clients Request - Results can be seen below :<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn5bD5ZsZyzdMZ1AcEhDaPIfeV_oci2_W6IX3trCSUiG9B8BNS-GHrlMVVLMtC-p8y_JrkQa3dO2Wm6teT69gh4JQz1ctga8uMvaZUyP02RZybX_9LX6VsBNAzwrbfVtMs_FD1a1ewRBhZ/s1600/Doclib.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="80" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn5bD5ZsZyzdMZ1AcEhDaPIfeV_oci2_W6IX3trCSUiG9B8BNS-GHrlMVVLMtC-p8y_JrkQa3dO2Wm6teT69gh4JQz1ctga8uMvaZUyP02RZybX_9LX6VsBNAzwrbfVtMs_FD1a1ewRBhZ/s400/Doclib.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Note the UID next to each document. This is auto generated by SP, no need to custom dev or columns with calculations etc. :-)<br />
<br />
One of their other requirements was to have some of the SharePoint Columns appear as Information in their templates, and populated as a new document is created from a Content Type. This was the fun part to figure out, as some things are not as obvious as it may seem.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY5zdwK-FSufoA8KerhK_uACusQclZAL59b3T7Sk7Y8vMky41yPQ8zAytQEll4gQ1KdWdq8PptKbgkY1XqpANvAdzretoIHz0Jn3d6r2az2h7CGwWJfaDb3kRJKadPPkYPn6PsMVGFExoh/s1600/WORDHeader.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="97" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY5zdwK-FSufoA8KerhK_uACusQclZAL59b3T7Sk7Y8vMky41yPQ8zAytQEll4gQ1KdWdq8PptKbgkY1XqpANvAdzretoIHz0Jn3d6r2az2h7CGwWJfaDb3kRJKadPPkYPn6PsMVGFExoh/s400/WORDHeader.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Above image shows how i have edited a Word Document's header, added a table with the required descriptions on the left. Now we have to insert the actual values on the right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGwEwOXrwdgoLwP1RDN8AwgI1gQXZMqXUiYeK9H7Et1928Gz1C0F_0-Oer2tBVrK6Z0t7XhMRrOiL1RrrEiW9hjNltbmcxk3b9xBOfP07q6Mtmj1ch4xoPE5Euhj0MrR7SxICS1XW5Qcq2/s1600/VersionDocPropWord.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGwEwOXrwdgoLwP1RDN8AwgI1gQXZMqXUiYeK9H7Et1928Gz1C0F_0-Oer2tBVrK6Z0t7XhMRrOiL1RrrEiW9hjNltbmcxk3b9xBOfP07q6Mtmj1ch4xoPE5Euhj0MrR7SxICS1XW5Qcq2/s400/VersionDocPropWord.PNG" width="323" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Select the cell in table where you want to insert the value, go to Insert Tab on the Ribbon, and Select Quick-Parts - Document Property. A list of available properties. The custom columns appear in the list, Document Creator, Document Type and Department (Custom - Using Managed Metadata)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There were 2 fields i had issues with, initially the Document ID column was not available. What i did was save the template to a document library, which forces the updating of content types and the creating of an initial Document ID. I could then find the Document ID Value from the list. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The second one i had issues with is the "Version" field. For some odd reason, it is just not available to insert, but i found a workaround.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Go into the document library where the documents will be stored - Library Settings and then click on Information management policy settings. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Click to Enable labels and put this into the label format box : <i>Version : {Version} \n </i>. Then click to save. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Go back to the document in Word , or it might need to be saved and re-opened. If you now go to word, you will see under the document properties, there is a field called label, that will now allow you to insert the version number.</div>

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
</h2>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is not be a huge post on the topic, a very simple post (Rant) on why it is important, for all parties involved. For the purpose of the post, i will break it up into 2 different categories, IT Importance and Client (Business) importance.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Let's start with a scenario, You get a support call from a client, that they cannot create Projects, nor Project Workspaces, in Project Online, after the December holliday break. No one really worked during the holliday's but there are issues on the environment. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So now the consultant has to go out to observe the error and all the broken items in the environment. Once you get there and start troubleshooting, you find it is a feature on a SharePoint Site, that has been de-activated. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The client themselves could not do it, they do not have this permissions, we did not do it, so that leaves, a 3rd Party vendor, in charge of their O365 deployment. Apparently they did n "clean-up" and security activity during the holliday's, and though the<em> Limited -access user permission lockdown mode </em>is <span style="color: #262626; font-family: "Segoe Pro",sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-themecolor: text1; mso-themetint: 217;">Unnecessary </span>and can be switched off! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This deactivation of the feature caused all of the issues in the environment. After switching it on, it works again. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The impact that this unscheduled change had :</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
IT Impact</h3>
<ol>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
4 Hours of on-site work </div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
No starting point for troubleshooting </div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
No idea why something was changed (the logic behind the change) </div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
No documentation of implemented or proposed changes</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
No discussion of possible impact to other systems, on change implementation</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #262626; font-family: "Segoe Pro",sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-themecolor: text1; mso-themetint: 217;">Unnecessary </span>disruption of service and unnecasary time and cost spent</div>
</li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yes we can bill for the work, which is not the major issue, but rather the impact on the business affected :</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Business Impact</h3>
<ol>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #262626; font-family: "Segoe Pro",sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-themecolor: text1; mso-themetint: 217;">Unnecessary </span>disruption of service </div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #262626; font-family: "Segoe Pro",sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-themecolor: text1; mso-themetint: 217;">Unnecessary </span>cost impact</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
No idea of any changes that happened in their environment</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
End user time impact, their work falls behind which mean projects could potentially be delayed.</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: left;">
"System Confidence", sound rather minor, but a bunch of incidents like this, could very quickly cause users to "dislike" or not "trust" a system, due to the frequent down time. </div>
</li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So please, for everone involved's sanity levels as well as cost and business impact, follow some sort of change process, and document any changes made. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To finish off, please find below a good description of a change:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em><strong>Change control is a systematic approach to managing all changes made to a product or system. The purpose is to ensure that no unnecessary changes are made, that all changes are documented, that services are not unnecessarily disrupted and that resources are used efficiently. Within information technology (IT), change control is a component of </strong></em><a href="http://searchcio-midmarket.techtarget.com/definition/change-management"><em><strong>change management</strong></em></a><em><strong>.</strong></em> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy Changing :-)</div>

<h2>
Happy New Year!</h2>
First off, may all my followers and viewers of my blog, have a blessed and prosperous 2016. May all your wildest dreams come true!<br />
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Changes to the blog :</h2>
The last month everything was in turmoil, as TPG Africa, whom I worked for, applied for liquidation, and thus leaving myself and a few other people without work. <br />
<br />
<br />
I was very fortunate to have been approached by Mint Management Technologies, to join their team as a Senior SPS Consultant. I have since accepted and started with them today. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.mint.co.za/" target="_blank">Mint Management Technologies</a> specializes in the following technologies: <a href="http://www.mint.co.za/#/p/ecm" target="_blank">ECM</a>, <a href="http://www.mint.co.za/#/p/crm" target="_blank">CRM</a> and <a href="http://www.mint.co.za/#/p/cam" target="_blank">CAM.</a> Thus I will no longer be very actively involved in the Project Server space (for now) and will focus on SharePoint and SharePoint online.<br />
<br />
<br />
All future posts on my blog will be SharePoint and ECM related.<br />
<br />
<br />
Thanks for your understanding and your support!<br />

What seemed to be the problem (Specifically for Word Templates) is that for some or other reason you can no longer specify a relative URL to the location of the document template, for example <i>https://clientname.sharepoint.com/sites/contenttypehub/documents/wordtemplate.docx. The system will change it into a relative URL (./sites/contenttypehub/wordtemplate.docx)</i></div>

I have recently come across a weird issue when installing at a new client. If a am correct, what caused this issue, was a mismatch between SharePoint 2013 and Project Server 2013 SP/CU on initial Install.<br />
<br />
SharePoint 2013 with SP1 was used to install but Project Server 2013 was not the SP 1 install. I then tried to uninstall Project Server 2013, but it failed. I thing Uninstalled SharePoint and installed again. The install went without hiccups , but when running he config wizard using the GUI or via PowerShell I got this error :<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;">Guid should contain 32 digits with 4 dashes (xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx).at System.Guid ..........</span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><br /></span>
The reason for this seems to be an invalid value in a registry key of "0"<br />
<br />
The solution is to open Regedit and navigate to:<i><b> </b></i><br />
<i><b><br /></b></i>
<b><i><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Web Server </span></i><i><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">extensions\14.0\WSS\InstalledProducts</span></i></b><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-ZA;"><b><o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<br />
The values in there must have a Proper Data Value set to work. Use list below to set correct value :<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: 14.2666664123535px;">For Enterprise trial Version: </span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 107%;"><b>88BED06D-8C6B-4E62-AB01-546D6005FE97 </b></span><br />

We have been deploying quite a few project Online Deployments for clients of ours. One of the things that I have noticed (Among others) is the fact that there seem to be a random issue with the Built-in Reports from time to time, after initial deployment.<br />

When a user, that has the appropriate permissions try to refresh anyone of the 3 default reports :<br />

<br />
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 15px;">So with Project Server 2010 all we needed to do was to download all the Pre-Req's and install them one by one. So many times i have been asked the question : Why do some Project Server implementations fails at a client ? or why did it only last a few months before it became a white elephant ?<br />
<br />
We have had support calls from clients where they wish to "resurrect" the implementation, that was done a year or two again. Just to come on-site to find out someone has formatted the server and re-allocated it to another application ! Which I'm sure it's normal IT practice but, no one new about it for about a year that the server is off. Only when a new person started in the PMO he wanted to use a tool, but the tool was not there.<br />
<br />
I have a done a bit of research on why Project Server Implementations fails and have spoken to may people that i work with on what caused things to go south. I will try to highlight them below in a manner that makes sense to all.<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Scoping of the Project</b> not done properly, when requirement workshops starts everybody is amazed at how much work is actually involved</li>
<li><b>Buy in from Senior Stakeholders</b> is a key success factor for a successful deployment. How do you drive the adoption of a new tool from the bottom up?? That will simply not work. I have dealt with clients where executives had come to a point, after numerous change management processes, training, begging and pleading, came to a point where the users KPA's and KPI's are influenced by participation of the system. Unfortunate, but a reality. But today 8 years on Project Server works like a dream in the same said organization, having upgraded from 2003 to 2007 and then to 2010.</li>
<li><b>Buy in from "the rest of the community</b>" In some cases too little focus is on the general community and too much focus on executives and Senior Personnel. By not letting them know the benefits and how it can make their work better, you actually just aggravates them. I have had Project Managers tell me that this new system will not be used and that they will use "Offline" scheduling to plan and track their projects, as they feel the "Visibility" makes them vulnerable. </li>
<li><b>Change Management</b> - So many organisations thinks by telling resources to use a new system is classified as change management. User training is <b>NOT </b>the only aspect of change management. In some cases management seem to think that change is driven from the bottom up and not from the Top downwards. This tool as with any other Enterprise tool requires an amount of change management.</li>
<li><b>Thinking the Tool will define a process. </b>The tool is supposed to support a properly defined process, not the other way around. If there is no governance or processes in place, many clients think this tool will now "Make it all better" </li>
<li><b>Overestimating Maturity. </b>Many organisations when asked the question "On a scale of 1-5, how mature are you. The general response is: "We are at least a 4!" In 95% of these cases a 2 on that same scale is an overkill. Once you are a in workshop and you start asking about base-lining procedures and the response is "We don't set baselines on schedules" but they are still trying to manage things like "Planned vs. Actual" and in some or other way try to actually report against that!! </li>
<li> <b>Over complication of the Configured Solution. </b>Many clients wants to have a solution that is so complex and can do so many things that the basics are forgotten about. Having a large complex solution that no one understands just adds to the end user frustration.</li>
<li><b>People overestimating the Project Professional skills. </b>So many people think they <b>know </b>Microsoft Project, having worked in a stand alone environment for years. Once a Project Server is installed that picture changes significantly. There are added complexities, and a heap of new functions to use.</li>
<li> <b>Customers don't follow advice. </b>Most reputable implementation partners have done this for a number of years and all of them have "War Stories" to tell. Clients take that lightly and does not listen to advise or suggestions given. We <b>have a very good idea of what will and what wont work!! </b>Trust us.</li>
<li> <b>Cutting Training. </b>Allot of clients think by cutting training from the deployment they will save time and money, when in fact what happens is is costs more and the learning and adoption curve is so much longer. In my humble opinion this is one of the most dangerous things to do. And i am sure some implementation partners will hang me for saying, that some Partners Allow clients to cut training so that they still get the business.</li>
<li><b>Infrastructure cost and or complexity. </b>Allot of the smaller clients tend to underestimate the complexity of n proper designed Infrastructure. Most of them do not want nor understand the need of a Development environment. </li>

So i am sure some of you have started playing around with Project Server 2013 or will be looking at it in the near future. One of the most interesting things for me is that Microsoft has decided to move the "Server Settings" (As known in Project Server 2010).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3NN42p8bK15b0ES5moDRgsZsu67IznayO76oQn7wv4SWGO5X6i_LY5V2oxAG_yAAkesRkxxRC-D-v-Yj9JTy4Asa061qzoEN9Hp_rboADIt-eFBzxHXE2ut09EoyxW1Ph6pnsEWJt5yW3/s1600/Navmenu.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3NN42p8bK15b0ES5moDRgsZsu67IznayO76oQn7wv4SWGO5X6i_LY5V2oxAG_yAAkesRkxxRC-D-v-Yj9JTy4Asa061qzoEN9Hp_rboADIt-eFBzxHXE2ut09EoyxW1Ph6pnsEWJt5yW3/s400/Navmenu.gif" width="137" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The new Navigation bar does not display the "Server Settings" section any more. What has happened is that some settings are now managed under the contexts of Central admin for the farm. The Managed items : <b>Queue and Database Administration, Operational Policies and Workflow & Project Detail Pages </b>are all managed from Central Admin. Some of these items below these topics are managed here.<br />
<br />
To get to those settings from Central Admin, select "General Application Settings" - Project Server Settings - Manage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjfo_y3MuvrsjV4mX5kgF-1UaOWISAhSG2NI5v1auLIz2fZRm8zKlMswnqsmmwnDe_olNGr8zTv1SdeydQYdA92CPAMShGF4Dd-fv3XBJBIt0BCgorZGa9qZ1LrsFzaot0bCgT7Z4ve3LZ/s1600/centraladmin+servsetting.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjfo_y3MuvrsjV4mX5kgF-1UaOWISAhSG2NI5v1auLIz2fZRm8zKlMswnqsmmwnDe_olNGr8zTv1SdeydQYdA92CPAMShGF4Dd-fv3XBJBIt0BCgorZGa9qZ1LrsFzaot0bCgT7Z4ve3LZ/s400/centraladmin+servsetting.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The rest of the Traditional "Server Settings" can be found under the "Site Settings Menu" of the PWA site that was created.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Note the "Project Web App Settings" at the bottom of the list. This is where you will find the remainder of the "Settings" for the PWA environment. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Interestingly enough the "Personal Settings" is now also listed under the Site menu. Obviously these items are permission driven, so depending on your role in the Environment you might or might not have access to everything.</div>

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
We have come across something very strange if we enter the Amount "90 000 000" in a cost field in Project Pro it rounds it off to "89 999 994,88" !! I find that very strange. As a matter of fact all my tests with amounts between 90 000 000 and 100 000 000 seem to be rounding. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
You may ask why that large amounts ? One of our clients are a mining house and the get to that amount in South African rand.<br />
<br />
I will log a call with Microsoft and revert once I have feedback. If any of you guys have any ideas please use the "Comment" to give your suggestions.<br />

<u><strong>Problem:</strong></u><br />
<br />
When trying to open my Timesheet using IE 10, which ships with Windows 8, I ran into the issue below. Note that the Landing Page displays correctly but when navigating to the Project Center or Timesheets it gives the error.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobBOn84jHCgCWHdN8aTyNA_FSZf-ELpvyZbesdCC3fBsfU8qYhobfAPzN9bl4GxqBRZoy3THRA3EnshGw8f9VSnci3oxZuJZYYts7hc6AFIJEpKKsQzf5G7T20XWmpZExXa2o4KGQedVD/s1600/ie+error.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobBOn84jHCgCWHdN8aTyNA_FSZf-ELpvyZbesdCC3fBsfU8qYhobfAPzN9bl4GxqBRZoy3THRA3EnshGw8f9VSnci3oxZuJZYYts7hc6AFIJEpKKsQzf5G7T20XWmpZExXa2o4KGQedVD/s400/ie+error.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
In my opinion this is one of "those" ill written errors , because I am ALREADY using a version higher than the minimum IE7 that it requires.<br />
<br />
I am sure on future updates it will be fixed though. <br />
<br />
<br />
<u><strong>Work Around:</strong></u><br />
<strong><u></u></strong><br />
With IE open click on the settings icon, then Click on the "F12 Developer Tools". At the top of the Browser window there you will see an option "Browser Mode", it should have defaulted to IE10. Click on the option and select IE9. Some other people stated that IE10 Compatibility have worked for them as well, for me it did not.<br />
<br />
You can then close the Developer Window and navigate to your timesheet. Everything should be working now.<br />
<br />
A last item I would like to point out is that the compatibility settings as specified above is not saved. So once you close and re-open IE, you will have to set compatibility again<br />
<br />
Feel free to leave questions and comments</div>

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
Project Server 2013: What's New </h2>
<br />
Hope you all are still doing well!! As part of my Project and Project Server 2013 series of Updates, this one will focus more on what has changed in the Project Server 2013 environment.<br />
<br />
Lets have a look at some of the changes : (Details will be discussed later)<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Multi-Tenancy Support</li>
<li>Database Consolidation (Much discussed topic)</li>
<li>The Odata Service</li>
<li>Project Server 365 (Cloud Availability)</li>
<li>Mobile Access to Project Information, using a Compatible Device (Sorry BBY!)</li>
<li>Demand Management Improvements</li>
<li>Better Exchange Integration Between SharePoint 2013, Project Server 2013 and Exchange 2013</li>
<li>My Tasks - ALL tasks in one location</li>
<li>Administrative Settings UI changes . </li>
</ul>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u><br /></u></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u>Multi-Tenancy Support</u></h3>
<div>
This allows a SharePoint Farm and SharePoint Infrastructure to be shared by different BU's or Clients. Typically it could be in a hosted environment where you need to give Multiple client the ability to manage their own environments. For more info Look <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section3">Here</a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u>Database Consolidation</u></h3>
<div>
In Project Server 2010 there are 4 Databases:</div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><i>ProjectServer_Archive</i></li>
<li><i>ProjectServer_Draft</i></li>
<li><i>ProjectServer_Published</i></li>
<li><i>ProjectServer_Reporting</i></li>
</ul>
<div>
One of the most significant changes to the actual architecture, is the consolidation of those 4 Databases into a Single Database. So no more 4.... Only one DB known as the Project Services Database. The 4 DB names are now "Tables and Views" of which only the Reporting table have direct accessing supported. So in that sense, nothing have changed. Read more <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section4" target="_blank">Here</a>.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u>Odata Service</u></h3>
A Major change in Project Server 2013 reporting, is the use of the OData service to access the Project Service database. The use of OData enables reporting from a Online Point of View. In Office 365, the ProjectService database for Project Online cannot be accessed directly, so an OData service is available.<br />
<div>
For more Info, read <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section8" target="_blank">Here</a><br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u>Project Server 365 Online</u></h3>
</div>
<div>
This has been released inline with Microsoft Office 365. This is an Online-Hosted solution, which is Hosted in a Microsoft Data Center. This enables an organisation to Adopt quickly. This also have a "Pay-as-you-Go" Model.</div>
<div>
In my opinion this is a relatively good offering for a Small organisation. (At a later stage i will discuss the why i think so)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Users can be added and changed when needed. Some of the benefits include, but are not limited to :</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>IT Pro-Administration </b>: All Operational maintenance and monitoring are handled through MS Project Online Services.</li>
<li><b>Easy Start-up</b> : No Infrastructure costs or Expensive licensing that need to be bought.</li>
<li><b>Security</b> : Monitored and checked for Viruses and Spam, and also redundant backups for when it might bee needed. (Not sure yet if they will be able to help with item level restores)</li>
<li><b>Guaranteed Up-time</b> : Microsoft offers guaranteed, financially-backed uptimes and phone support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.</li>
</ul>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u>Mobile Access to Project information</u></h3>
</div>
<div>
A new addition in Project Server 2013 is support for mobile access to your project Information. A web-based mobile site is now included, which enables team members and project managers to view project status on a mobile device. You can access and edit relevant project documents and do lightweight editing of project plans from your Windows Phone 7.5 (using the Internet Explorer 9 browser), Apple iPhone, or Android device. For more Information read <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section6" target="_blank">Here</a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<u>Demand Management Improvements</u></h3>
<div>
In Project Server 2010, workflows can be created and edited in <b>Visual Studio</b>. A major improvement in Project Server 2013 is the ability to use SharePoint Designer and the SharePoint workflow engine to create Project workflows for Demand Managemen<span style="font-family: 'Segoe UI', Verdana, Arial; font-size: 13px;">t. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Segoe UI', Verdana, Arial; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span></div>
No more costly licences to build a workflow. This <i>might </i>also have an impact on 3rd Party Workflow Engines like Nintex or K2. Now clients will need those 3rd Party Products only when they require more complex and advanced workflow's, as opposed to now, when just about any workflow requires a 3rd Party application. Read <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section7" target="_blank">here</a> for more information<br />
<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><u>Integration Improvements with Exchange 2013, SharePoint and Project Server</u></b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The Exchange integration feature in Project Server 2013 allows you integrate project task management by using SharePoint Server 2013 with Exchange Server 2013. This allows team members anywhere that have access to Exchange Server to interact with task management data in Outlook or Outlook Web App and even using an Exchange-connected mobile device (by using either Windows Phone 7.5 or Apple IOS v5). More information <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section9" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
My Tasks: All tasks in one location</h3>
The My Tasks feature allows users to see an aggregation of their SharePoint, Project Server, and Outlook/Exchange tasks in a single location — the My Tasks page in a user's personal site. Instead of navigating to different lists, sites, and site collections to view and edit both SharePoint Server and Project Server tasks, users simply have to go to their My Tasks page to see a single collection of all the things they need to do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

This is done using a new Service called "Work Management Service" that combines all of the users tasks in the My Tasks in a Users site. For more info on this click <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section11" target="_blank">here</a></div>

<span style="text-align: left;">Administrative Settings UI changes</span></h3>
In Project Server 2013 , Administrative controls that are more IT-related were moved from the <b>Project Web App Server</b> Settings page to the <b>SharePoint Central Administration</b> site. The goal is to make the Server Settings page more suitable for PMO Administration and to move settings related to administering the farm to the Central Administration site.<br />
<br />
In Central Administration in SharePoint Server 2013, you can find the Manage Project Server Settings page in the General Application Settings section. For further reading click <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631142(v=office.15)#section12" target="_blank">here</a></div>

<h4 style="text-align: left;">
In Conclusion</h4>
<div>
This is a list of some of the changes (There are many more) that i found worthy to mention for now. Note that some of these items<b style="font-style: italic;"> might </b>change due to this being based on the Preview Software and not the RTM software, however this is highly unlikely.</div>

So it's almost here!! The Technical Preview is ready for download <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/evalcenter/hh973401" target="_blank">Here</a>. This is just a quick post on Project 2013, to give everyone and idea of whats coming. In later posts i will go into a bit more detail on some of the new or changed functionality<br />
<br />
So the first thing that caught my eye is the new .... wait for it ..... Icons :-) They have changed totally for Office 2013.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha5PGRdEiqfpiQh9Qr-ZGZ_2JKrhPN2oHz-KLysTrGUFhZN-OoFrrliSCO2cwlH56nPvkQdkN_YbYS7gFnsF8B4iedWjLZVreVFUtoTBW9ScOiocjEtXCDKoER_HKD9cAjL9ghRgzFqjK1/s1600/2013+Start+Menu.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha5PGRdEiqfpiQh9Qr-ZGZ_2JKrhPN2oHz-KLysTrGUFhZN-OoFrrliSCO2cwlH56nPvkQdkN_YbYS7gFnsF8B4iedWjLZVreVFUtoTBW9ScOiocjEtXCDKoER_HKD9cAjL9ghRgzFqjK1/s1600/2013+Start+Menu.png" /></a></div>
Now in my honest opinion it looks nice, but it no longer the "Standard" as we got used to. But i am sure most of us are open for change, right ?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So i went and opened Project 2013 preview and i got the the "Recent" Page. This page will list all you recent items, as well as templates. From here you can also search online for other templates.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIsx3apl7FFWKXZkaPZKItpIpfQk6wcWLSVnFy7k5oe4U4t0uymhWuUAmN7eowvUfIF8JijO96l09SI5rGsd1sMe4r8D3vhxwtoiWa6A80vxtd3UAwA6rIJpMyGlsUsTlzljAX3KzhHeR9/s1600/Preview+Page.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIsx3apl7FFWKXZkaPZKItpIpfQk6wcWLSVnFy7k5oe4U4t0uymhWuUAmN7eowvUfIF8JijO96l09SI5rGsd1sMe4r8D3vhxwtoiWa6A80vxtd3UAwA6rIJpMyGlsUsTlzljAX3KzhHeR9/s400/Preview+Page.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
A simple touch of the "Esc" button, opens a blank schedule for you to start with. This has not changed an awful lot.... Except that it is very very "White", not only is Project 2013 very "White" but the other Office 2013 packages too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7JttV8b8qdXrx5jxTkb0YlYAEmewNUIdjHtg625OzP4k3nNYmWe-4wYTULy4954-llCjzPXNI3KnW0pe0wbvZ6wLudoOEQZDpvzAdiTZXKbpNaqGCpzc1b8uVmZLmm4Mj4CJ20ltuaIBO/s1600/BlankSchedule.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7JttV8b8qdXrx5jxTkb0YlYAEmewNUIdjHtg625OzP4k3nNYmWe-4wYTULy4954-llCjzPXNI3KnW0pe0wbvZ6wLudoOEQZDpvzAdiTZXKbpNaqGCpzc1b8uVmZLmm4Mj4CJ20ltuaIBO/s400/BlankSchedule.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Ribbon looks the same have more or less the same items on. There is one major Improvement that I would like to highlight in this post. Microsoft have Upgraded the "Local Reports" quite a lot. The good 'ol Visual reports are still there, but they have added a few new reports.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD4Lc89bAU4i_cDsdEhFltnANTDruxy-hMRyLehW9X6gq6PMre14M6XNMmLlX8He_I-sinz2WENbStx64YyDi8hn6fNiPW3DlYf_U7c5-JVCKC8ACs1fSgYMiM42gDQZujgAwcHcjBUblJ/s1600/Reports.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD4Lc89bAU4i_cDsdEhFltnANTDruxy-hMRyLehW9X6gq6PMre14M6XNMmLlX8He_I-sinz2WENbStx64YyDi8hn6fNiPW3DlYf_U7c5-JVCKC8ACs1fSgYMiM42gDQZujgAwcHcjBUblJ/s1600/Reports.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lets have a look at one of those reports, the Project Overview Report: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEG83UYAGTMhVYBiHSUywJTOOYvfoUNYgw8afC3y6oEfYQCR4BG9xcjktm-1bg5mQb7kYMqNLSZVXNQWKoW-PMLFKO3PYJOLwQkcnpS54JQ4aPh1EgBLihBl91dlnH3axgAjlnAD0tYMsL/s1600/Projectoverview.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEG83UYAGTMhVYBiHSUywJTOOYvfoUNYgw8afC3y6oEfYQCR4BG9xcjktm-1bg5mQb7kYMqNLSZVXNQWKoW-PMLFKO3PYJOLwQkcnpS54JQ4aPh1EgBLihBl91dlnH3axgAjlnAD0tYMsL/s400/Projectoverview.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now most of these reports can also be edited to some extent. I will look at that in a later topic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Saving a document works the same as before. File - Save or Save As. Have one or two more options though. If you singed up for SkyDrive you can save the document directly to your SkyDrive making it more accessible from various locations. What you dont see there is a Project Server option - I have not configured one as yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVL1A9CzxxDceIlV_DZuulcw4vT0zHFYN1TkX_MZh5anjG9AMstUUF7ILlcoLx9q0KC8Jgm8YTQl7QyuJydeCpDMWoHKj8If_XLlOYfk6RFZ_64-YeKMucDXmxO2MW57T2yCv8S2LpecyT/s1600/Save.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVL1A9CzxxDceIlV_DZuulcw4vT0zHFYN1TkX_MZh5anjG9AMstUUF7ILlcoLx9q0KC8Jgm8YTQl7QyuJydeCpDMWoHKj8If_XLlOYfk6RFZ_64-YeKMucDXmxO2MW57T2yCv8S2LpecyT/s400/Save.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In time i will do some more blog posts on Project 2013 and Project Server 2013.If there are any specifics you would like to know, please comment here, maybe, just maybe i might be able to help you :-)</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">The key to this issue is the 4th Line in my Screenshot. <b>"ActiveCacheUnsupportedProjectVersion"</b> This simply means that the users Project Professional is not on the Same Version (Be it Service Pack or Cumulative Update) as required by the server.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Administrators can "Version Control" Project Pro clients to must be a minimum version before they are allowed to connect to the server. If they do not have the correct version, this error is displayed above.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">To confirm the minimum version required navigate to "Server Settings - Additional Server Settings - Under the Project Professional Versions" The minimum version will be displayed there.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">It normally confuses users as it seems like a serious issue due to the error description in XML code. I'm sure at some Point Microsoft could perhaps update this "Function" to look less like an error.</span><br />
